Infosys hiring process for freshers: rounds, roles and preparation
Infosys hires thousands of freshers a year through online tests and short interviews. Here's what each round looks like and how to prepare.
Last updated 30 Oct 2026
Infosys is one of the largest fresher employers in India. Its off-campus process is predictable once you know the steps: register on the official site, take an online test, clear an interview, then wait for training and joining.
Dates, eligibility and test details change from drive to drive, so use this guide as the map and the official notice as the rules.
Fresher roles at Infosys
Infosys hires freshers into a few levels. Names can change, but recent drives have used roles like these:
- Systems Engineer (SE): the main fresher role, with the largest intake.
- Digital Specialist Engineer (DSE) and Specialist Programmer (SP): higher roles with higher pay, for people with strong coding skills.
The higher roles usually come through tougher coding rounds, such as Infosys's HackWithInfy coding contest, or through a stronger result in the same test. The offer letter states the pay for your role, so trust that figure over what you read online.
Where to apply
- Apply only through the Infosys careers site or a link from it. Off-campus drives for a graduation year are announced there.
- Infosys does not charge you to apply, take its test or join. If anyone asks for money, it's a scam. See Spotting fake fresher job offers.
- Watch out for look-alike emails and WhatsApp messages. Real Infosys emails come from Infosys's own domain.
Who can apply
Each drive sets its own rules. They usually cover:
- Degree: typically B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech, MCA and some M.Sc. streams.
- Graduation year: the batch the drive is for.
- Marks and backlogs: a minimum score and no active backlogs at joining.
Read the eligibility section before you register. Clearing the test doesn't help if you don't meet it.
Round 1: the online test
The Systems Engineer test usually mixes:
- Reasoning: puzzles, arrangements, series, data sufficiency.
- Mathematical ability: percentages, ratios, time and work, probability.
- Verbal ability: grammar, reading comprehension, sentence ordering.
- Pseudocode or coding: reading short code and predicting its output, or simple problems.
Tests for higher roles add harder coding problems, so data structures and algorithms matter more there. Sections are often timed separately, so don't spend too long on one question.
Round 2: the interview
If you clear the test, you get an interview, often online and often 20–40 minutes. Technical and HR questions are frequently combined:
- Your projects: what you built, your part in it, what you'd change.
- Basics: your main programming language, OOP, DBMS (simple SQL queries), and operating systems or networking basics.
- Simple coding: reversing a string, finding duplicates, basic patterns.
- HR: relocation, night shifts, the training period, documents.
Be honest. Saying "I haven't used that, but here's how I'd learn it" is better than guessing.
After selection: offer, training and joining
- Selected freshers get an offer letter, then a joining date.
- New hires usually go through a foundation training programme before joining a project. Infosys is known for its large training campus in Mysuru.
- Joining dates for big batches can take months. Keep applying elsewhere until you have a date in writing. See Offer letter but no joining date and the onboarding wait tracker, where freshers share how long companies took.
A 3-week prep plan
- Week 1: reasoning and maths, 45 minutes a day, always timed.
- Week 2: verbal practice and pseudocode. Trace short programs by hand and predict the output.
- Week 3: two full mock tests, then interview prep. Explain each project out loud in two minutes.
For the higher roles, add daily coding practice on arrays, strings, hashing and simple dynamic programming.
